Cross-disciplinary Communication Workshop
My role: Graphic Designer, SME, and Co-speaker
A front-end developer and I hosted this interactive workshop with the goal of facilitating better communication across technical and non-technical teams. She and I worked extremely well together, so we created the content for this workshop by deconstructing our working process, as well as gathering information from other designers and developers in the company.
The workshop was an hour long, and we kept it very informal and freeform. We walked through plenty of real-world examples of projects we’d both been on, and welcomed discussion and questions throughout the workshop. We outlined our “Ten T/NT Tips” and for each one asked the attendees to write down a time they encountered that particular issue, and then asked volunteers to share their examples. The group then workshopped solutions to the volunteer’s issue together, and by the end everyone who volunteered an issue had a thoroughly vetted solution approach to take back with them.
We had a great turn out, with attendees being split fairly evenly between technical and non-technical teams, which made for lively and engaging discussion - exactly what we had hoped for!
